More than 15,000 women have participated in employment equality programs developed between 2016 and 2019 by Cruz Roja, Fundación Cepaim , Fundación Mujeres and Fundación Secretariado Gitano

Fundación Secretariado Gitano  together with Cruz Roja, Fundación Cepaim and Fundación Mujeres, has presented last Friday April 12 at the Secretary of State for Equality, the results achieved between 2016 and 2019 by the Operational Program for Social Inclusion and the Social Economy (POISES) in relation to their work in the axis of Equality, which these four organizations develop with the financing of the European Social Fund.

Soledad Murillo, Secretary of State for Equality, opened the event highlighting the relevance of "democratizing talent, promoting impartiality in the methods of selection and promotion" in the selection of professional profiles, and alluding to the incorporation of the perspective of gender in hiring processes.

Under the slogan "ADDING IN EQUALITY", the four organizations made known the results achieved in the programs developed by the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Social Security, to articulate employment opportunities for women furthest from the labour market and, therefore, with greater difficulties of socio-labour inclusion. For this, not only has been essential to work with the women themselves, also with the companies and professionals involved in the intervention. With the same objective, awareness campaigns aimed at society have been designed, as well as actions directed explicitly at men in order to also involve them in gender equality.

Along with the screening of videos showing the main results achieved since 2016, as well as some testimonies from the participating women, a round table was held in which Emma Toledano, from the General Directorate of Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, of the European Commission in Spain; Ángel Mª García Frontelo, Deputy Director General of the ESF Administrative Unit, Ministry of Labour, Migration and Social Security; Esther Mª Pérez Quintana, Deputy Director General of Programming and Evaluation of the ESF, Ministry of Labour, Migration and Social Security and Luis Simó Moreno, Deputy Director of Programs of the Institute for Women and Equal Opportunities, Ministry of the Presidency, Relations with Courts and Equality.

Emma Toledano said that this type of program was "really necessary, since, although progress had been made in terms of gender equality, there is still much to be done". Luis Simó, affirmed that "men and women should continue working hand in hand for gender equality".

Finally, representatives of the 4 entities put on the table the suggestions to the public authorities so that in the next period of the operational program they will continue working for those women further away from the current labour market.

Isidro Rodríguez, General Director of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano, concluded by emphasizing the importance of the continuity of this type of programs in the "medium term" so that the results are truly transformative. He also reflected on the opportunities offered by the European Social Fund in relation to its capacity to favour social transformation, promoting policies that allow addressing specific situations and working in collaboration with NGOs as generators of social capital.
