A new edition of the TándEM programmes for training in alternation with employment begins in Spain, with 58 new students

From 2 September 2024 until September 2025, a new edition of the TánDEM sub-programmes of the Spanish Public Employment Service will be developed by Fundación Secretariado Gitano, with 58 students.

This new TándEM will have 5 sub-programmes: Administration in NGOs, with 18 trainees from 17 different cities (in online format); 2 sub-programmes of Gardening with 12 trainees each; Repair of architectural park elements (8 trainees); Social catering sub-programme (8 trainees).

The TándEM programme responds to a double challenge: the training of young people with low qualifications, and their work experience, which opens up real horizons for a stable life project.

It is a great opportunity for young Roma people to receive training while gaining access to employment in professions that would otherwise be difficult for them to choose, since the Roma community in Spain, although an eminently young population (60% are under 30 years of age), has very low rates of qualifications: only 17% have a Compulsory Secondary Education Graduate.

At the inaugural online session held on 2 September, FSG Director General Sara Giménez stressed that ‘these programmes are spearheading the opening of doors to the world of work for young participants’.

The TándEM programme is one of the programmes included in the specific Investment in Youth Employment within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan - Funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU. The Plan is the result of a coordinated European response with Member States to address the economic and social consequences of the pandemic.
